Q. I've been trying to figure it out for hours now, and I just can't seem to do it! I had a friend get the network set up for me using the remote access on the computer with XP on it, but windows 2k doesn't take that version of msn! The computer with XP DOES have the network available, as well as file sharing (Which is where I'm kinda trying to go..) but I can't seem to get it set up on windows 2000. Any suggestions would be great!
The computer I have with XP doesn't have a floppy drive... stupid compaq!!!!!!!!
I tried placing a cd into the drive, and it still said that I need a floppy.

A. Here's what you have to do:
1. Click>Start>ControlPanel>Network Connections
2. Right Click>Local Area Network>Properties
3. Click> InternetProtocol(TCP/IP)>properties
4. Make an IP address
ex: computerXP: 192.168.14.1
ex: computer2k: 192.168.14.2
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 (which is applicable for both computers
5. If your using a network HUB the previous steps are a must use.
6. If your using a network router, here are some additional stepes you must do.
7. Know your gateway, which can be found in your network router settings.
8. Once gateway is obtained, then include the gateway into your settings. The gateway is for internet purpose.

How do I transfer a program from a Windows 2k Pro laptop to a Windows XP laptop?
Q. Can't find the program CD's. The Windows 2K laptop doesn't have a burner. It does have a usb port. I wish it was another XP machine cuz then I could just use the Files and Settings transfer wizard but 2K doesn't have that. So what do I do?
A. not an easy solution
- usb thumb drive
- copy the folder of the program ( c:\program files\)
- make note of the shortcut that you open to run the program
- copy that location down
- paste into new computer ( c:\program files)
- locate the original shortcut information that you copied down
- browse that folder on new computer and find the program as listed int he shortcut
- open it
- if you see dll errors, try copying the dll mentioned from old pc to new pc and put the dll in the same folder onthe new pc as was on the old one
- if that fails, not much else you can do.
The program will have to be reinstalled.

How can I connect two computers with windows 2000 and vista using a wireless access point?
Q. I often need to transfer files between my desktop running windows 2K and a laptop running vista, but i have to transfer the files from one computer to a flash drive and onto the other computer. I have looked at a ton of tutorials of how to set up wireless networking on 2K but none have helped.
this is my home access point, not just a random public one

A. Its really pretty easy. You just need to put both computers into the same Workgroup, restart, and then access the files you want. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > System. Check the Computer's name, you'll need to know each of these. Also on this screen, you should see the Domain name or Workgroup name. Make sure both computers have the same Workgroup name. Make a change and restart if needed. After the restart, to access the remote computer, go to Start > Run, type \\computername\c$ and hit enter. Now you're looking at the C drive of the remote computer. From here, just browse to the folder you want, and find your files. If you need to get to D, or E, or any other drive letter, type \\computername\d$ or \\computername\e$, whatever one it is you're trying to get to.
