How can i upgrade my computer to windows 2000?

Q. i have windows 98 and i want to upgrade to windows 2000 for free. is their something i can download to do that? and is it easy?

A. Today, Microsoft will not allow you to install an operating system without it being registered!

Too, why would you want WIN2000, Microsoft support for that OS is dying?

Here are major issues that you should consider doing any thing to your present computer!

DO not take out WIN 98! Your system is running, do not change that!

To change you MUST have 1GB of RAM!
READ your MOTHERBOARD USERS GUIDE!

RAM is cheap, Make sure you have 1GB of RAM and buy a second hard drive for any NEW Operating System that you want to install.

To place Active@ KillDisk Pro onto a floppy disk type the following at the command prompt:

Is it possible to format a hard drive in Windows 2000 and install Windows ME?

Q. I was given a computer that has Windows 2000. However, WIN 2000 seems to have a lot of errors. Is it possible to format it and install WIN ME which I am more familiar with?

A. Yes, it is possible. Put in the ME disk, then reboot. Choose to boot from CD, then go through the steps and tell it to reformat. You will lose ALL your data.

However, i don't really recommend going to ME--it is really a very crappy OS. 2000 is much more stable. If it is having problems, try formatting and reinstalling 2000. If that doesn't work, you can always try ME, but in that case it is quite unlikely that the OS is causing the problems.

How do I fix this PC with continuous error messages?

Q. There is a PC in my household that is completely useless. I think it is running windows 2000. Every time I try to access any icons or even the start menu I get an error message like "Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service" or something regarding memory being low :S. I'm confused. Is there a simple fix to this, like wiping everything? I mainly use my mac and just need a desktop for the leisurely browsing and occasional typing.

A. You could have a bad RAM chip. Hit one of the Fkeys on bootup (whichever you're told to do) to get into the BIOS to see if it "sees" everything that you know you have on that machine. Hard drives, RAM, just look it over to make sure it seems normal to you.

If you don't mind a $20 investment, hit a computer/electronics store and pick up an external hard drive case. Remove the hard drive from this desktop, put it in the case and voila! you have an external drive with a USB plug.

You should be able to plug it into your Mac, and "see" the drive; I wouldn't boot anything up with it until you've confirmed that the drive is okay. You can use another PC and run diagnostics on your drive to see if it is the drive or not.

However, if this old PC is over 5 years of age, there might be other issues; you might even have a virus, or maybe the HD is just packed full and the OS has no room to move.

How do I troubleshoot problems with my Windows Media Player;horrible audio & video to be exact?
